‘Clear, accurate, up to date and written in plain English’
Communicating with customers in plain English is now a compliance issue. The Central Bank’s Consumer Protection Code (CPC) requires regulated financial services to ensure all information for customers is ‘clear, accurate, up to date and written in plain English’.
And, just as importantly, customers want to be able to understand everything you write the first time they read it.
Research shows that people don’t want to read jargon and that they are less likely to buy a product if they don’t understand the ‘small print’.
What we do
We help financial services companies to show the Central Bank that they are taking appropriate action to comply with the CPC. We also empower staff by showing them how to write clearly, concisely and effectively.
Training. We provide customised training courses for staff and executives in banks and insurance companies. These are customised for each organisation, and use their own communications materials. The aim is to ensure attendees take away the skills to use plain English in a professional style.
Support. We create in-house guides to provide a permanent support for all staff writers. This could be a comprehensive Writing Guide or simply a one-page Quick Guide.
Editing. We edit and proofread customer letters (e.g. on MARP), reports, template emails, product brochures and website content. We also completely re-write materials to provide a ‘plain English makeover’.
