Academic sector

Emails. Website content. Articles. Reports. Minutes. Prospectuses. User manuals. Feedback. Strategic plans. Conference reports.

Many staff in academic institutions write every day. They write for a wide range of readers, in a wide range of mediums and to achieve a wide range of objectives.

This means that writers – support staff and academics – need to adapt the style, language and tone of voice they use, while still sounding professional and polished.

What we do
We understand the challenges facing staff who write in universities, colleges and institutes of technology. Our training courses help them to write effectively for managers, colleagues, students, parents, academics – using plain English, adapted for its target audience.

We also provide editing for website content and university publications, such as prospectuses.

I apply what I learned on the course to my own work on a daily basis. The highly practical editing and proofreading course provided the skills and resources to create, edit and proofread a range of documents clearly, quickly and effectively.

Sarah provided us with a set of basic principles and tips to guide our editing; she explained everything very clearly and gave plenty of examples to illustrate each point. The use of editing and proofreading exercises gave us the opportunity to put what we had learned into practice straight away and to get immediate feedback from Sarah on how the work could be improved.

In addition to her excellent delivery of the course itself, Sarah has acted as an invaluable mentor to me on an ongoing basis. I would highly recommend Sarah’s training to anyone interested in improving their editing and proofing skills. – Gráinne O’Donovan, Editor, Quality Support Unit
